Alys Robi - The Broken Dream
At only 23, Joëlle is asked to fill the mythical shoes of legendary singer, Lady Alys Robi.
Born Alice Robitaille in Quebec City on February 3rd, 1923, Robi was Quebec's first high-voltage international recording star, whose promising show business career was cut short in 1952 fallowing a car accident in California.
Exhausted and heart-broken, Alys later suffered a mental breakdown and was interned for several years in a Canadian asylum where she was subjected to a lobotomy against her will.
Often described as Canada's answer to the renowned Latin singer and dancer, Carmen Miranda, Robi sold hundreds of thousands of records during the Second World War.
Joëlle's intense and passionate portrayal of the singer earns her an Artis Award for best actress in a television series as well as a Gémeaux Award nomination. She stayed close to Miss Robi until her death in 2011.
Âgée de seulement 23 ans, Joëlle prend les traits de la chanteuse mythique Alys Robi. Elle incarne avec tant d'intensité ce personnage que son interprétation lui vaut le Trophée Artis de la meilleure actrice dans une série télévisée, ainsi qu'une nomination aux prix Gémeaux.
Joëlle est restée proche d'Alys jusqu'à sa mort en 2011.
